The Australian National University found one of the earliest known recipes for Chocolate Crackles in Betty King’s Cook Book dated approximately 1940. The recipe is relatively simple and requires only hard cooking fat, icing sugar, cocoa, Rice Bubbles and coconut, making it a popular item for young children to make. The confection is a favourite at children’s birthday parties and is often sold during fundraising events. Chocolate Crackles (Photograher Janice Boughton)
